We can help! You may feel like there is nothing else to be done, and being an athlete is just painful. However, it should not be this way. There are many ways we can determine the root cause to why you are experiencing any discomfort during your sport and treat it. At Expert Athletes you will go through a full evaluation in your first appointment. This will allow the athletic trainer to understand both the athlete and the issue. During the first session, the athletic trainer and athlete will come up with a plan to meet the needs and goals. This will look different for each person, as we want to treat the individual athlete.
There are many common injuries that athletes can experience, but many of them can be prevented. For example, one of the most common injuries in basketball and soccer is an ankle sprain. Although we cannot prevent them 100% of the time, we can reduce the risk! Ankle sprains can be prevented by strengthening the muscles surrounding the lower leg and ankle. This will protect the ankle joint as the athlete performs cutting, pivoting, jumping and landing. Another example of a common injury is a tear of the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). To reduce the risk, we can analyze the athletes' movements and strengthen the correct muscles to reduce the risk of sustaining such injury.
Remember that experiencing pain or soreness as an athlete does not have to be the norm! And athletes can prevent injuries from happening and reduce the amount of time off of the field or court. Athletic trainers are skilled in working with athletes to allow them to compete at the highest level, at their healthiest, at all times.
